The book begins with 12 examples of increasing complexity, designed to hone the student's ability to think in mathematical terms and to apply quantitative methods to scientific problems. The reader is then gently eased into calculus and differential equations through reviews of elementary arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, being free to enter at any point consistent with his or her comfort level.
